Hey guys, my VR when starting wether cold or warm cranks over very slowly once or twice then fires, any idea's as to wether this is a fault or what may cause this. Once she's running its all fine just slow cranking when starting! Have noticed the occasional puff of black smoke from exhaust on start-up. Suspension at front end makes a creaking kind of noise when cornering left or right-swaybar possibly??? Steering??? Quick background info....New oil/filter/plugs/leads, cooling system flushed and pressure tested. Doesn't use any fluids as oil/water/PS/Break all fine since change a month ago..Anyone know how to test leads with multimeter to be sure all ok! Cheers guys Jason
Regarding the slow starting, I'd be looking at the starter motor, it could be on its way out, as well as the battery too. Also check the connections on the battery, as well as the wiring going to the starter motor... if its all original its probably pretty shot by now, and there will be a lot of resistance, hence the starter motor starting slowly. If the starter is shot, then it will be drawing excessive amounts of current, which will burn out the wiring, and ultimately kill the battery too. Regarding the puff of black smoke, could be running a bit rich, or have a lot of carbon deposits in the engine, might be worthwhile doing an upper engine clean, and maybe get the coolant temp sensor tested and oxygen sensor tested as well, as they can both cause rich running.
I'd look at the starter motor as well, make sure the positive lead is tight on the solenoid. The creaking could be strut top bearings or just rubber creaking on the swaybar link pins.
