I noticed my tailpipe was loose and had a look, found the muffler hanger was broken. So I took it to exhaust workshop to be replaced, and they found that the Y-pipe hanger was also busted. The shop boss remarked that this happens often with lowered suspensions, not from dragging on the ground, but the hard springs jolting stuff.
Is that a fair comment?

No, I wouldn't say so. Exhaust is rubber mounted and lowered suspension won't play a role in exhaust damage. If it's damaged, it's either rusted out or wasn't made or supported properly in the first place.

Honestly that sounds like the biggest load of poppy cock I've ever heard.

I'd pretty much support what EYY has suggested above.
