I'm not getting any fault codes or anything, and I haven't had the usual symptoms of hard starting when hot or anything like that, so I sort of stayed away from blaming the CAS.
The other thing the car is doing when shutting down is rattling to a stop. The crank kind of wobbles back and forth before it stops. I'm told this could be 'dieseling', where it fires a couple of times after the ignition is cut. Apparently this happens when the timing is out. Dad put his timing light on and thinks it's a little erratic so I guess CAS or cam sensor are possibilities.
Also, I happened to damage the plastic mount on a knock sensor, but the plug on the loom stays in position, and I'm not getting error codes for the knock sensor...any chance that this could be causing an issue?
