3/4 by memory 18mm or 19mm
If you use a rattle gun, that should do the trick,
Or use a breaker bar and a TEMPORARY EXTENSION ;)
and do a spark pull on it.

There is an inspection plate at the bottom of the bell housing,
remove that and you can usually get a long screw driver in there and hot the flywheel by its teeth,
where this was requires 2 people,
one holding the screw driver, o_O
and the other hang off he breaker bar. :)

Hint:
  1. Don't damage the torque converter,
  2. it's a right hand thread.;)

Better to use a long heavy steel pipe on the breaker bar ( in my case an old workshop trolley jack handle ) and angle it down towards the concrete. That way you won't risk damaging any part of the suspension or under body. Just make sure you know which way the engine turns when you start it.... And switch it off immediately if it starts during the process.
This worked a treat on the ecotecs, have not needed to try it on an Alloytec. Although I've got a rattle gun now so I'd use it instead.

Remove the fuel pump relay after you start the car that way it wont start when cracking the bolt with the starter method.
