VE SSV Redline Ute
Hi peeps bit of a follow up from my last thread. Ive not long charged my ute, took it to the drags last week it was absolutely useless with the 4:11s and stock 19s (as expected). I'm looking at going back to the 3:45s but with 640+rwhp I'm pretty much thinking of doing the whole diff. Thoughts on the best diff for that power,I've seen threads wavetrack is better, truetrac is better, get a harrop truetrac over the eaton, it can handle more hp. I wanna cut through the bs and get the right information and possibly where to get it done,I'm in Perth. VE SS ute 6sp manual. Cheers peeps

Yes:
Harrop Truetrac rated to 500rwkw.
Eaton Truetrac rated to 500rwhp.

I cannot comment on the wavetrac.

Apologies if it's a stupid question, but what does this actually mean? How do you rate a diff for X amount of horsepower?

Just a bit confusing, because couldn't you still eventually shatter a Harrop Truetrac with 200rwhp if you keep dropping the clutch on it?

Is that a typo, are they both supposed to be kW?

If not and you were to compare apples to apples it would be:

Harrop Truetrac rated to 670rwhp.
Eaton Truetrac rated to 500rwhp.

Or oranges to oranges would be:

Harrop Truetrac rated to 500rwkw.
Eaton Truetrac rated to 373rwkw.

Not a typo, most people understand that 500rwkw is more power than 500rwhp.
These are the ratings that are given by the manufacturers.

If people really need to know how many kw 500hp is or how many hp 500kw are, they can figure it out for themselves.
In this case they don't need to, since you have already done that for them.

You test the diff on vehicles that have that sort of power and if it goes pop you test it on something less powerful until it doesn't blow up.
Yes if you abuse the **** out of thing they may eventually go bang.

This is correct, Harrop make there own truetrac centres under license from Eaton. Harrop use a better quality billet case with the Eaton internals which is why they have the higher power rating.

I don't have a wavetrac but they have an extra bit inside the centre which prevents loss of drive which is possible with a truetrac if one wheel has absolutely zero traction which can happen. If you read the instructions that come with a truetrac it will explain this. For more info on the wavetrac see Wavetrac® Differential - A torque biasing differential with a difference

Wavetrac is the best of the bunch in all scenarios.
I'd also look at getting an 18" wheel with a 305 or ideally a 315 wide tyre on the back for better hook up at the drags.

So sorry your highness, please forgive me for trying to help?

I was simply pointing out the difference (that some reading may have missed) and perhaps the fact that it borders on false advertising to use an out-dated scale of measuring power just to make a product look comparable to the opposition.

Swings and roundabouts, they're from two different countries (although plenty of people in Aus go by HP still). Effectively the same as inches and centimetres.
