2006 VZ SS CREWMAN
Hi Everyone,

You may have seen previous posts sorting a few same issues with my former 2007 VZ Crewman S and now my 2006 VZ SS Version. I'm loven the new beast but can only ponder the history of this beauty. Came from WA and people suggest a regional area. Interior all but perfect (fine Iron Ore fine dust trough all externals though), and no engine or transmission ills at 145 K on it. Has a bigger after market exhaust that drones nicely (maybe ear plugs on a decent trip). Air intake is an interesting K&N kit. Vehicle goes like I can hardly believe (maybe chipped but how would I tell)? Today at light, I was sitting next to a Storm Crewman S and looking how my Crewman seemed to nose down I ponder and the tray seemed lower too. Has my vehicle that appears to be set up for WA country distance trips, has the suspension been modded too?

At wheel Centre the front height to the inside guard edge (straight up) is 700mm the rear is 760mm. Can a keen member with a LS2 2006 VZ SS Crewman go measure this height if vehicle is standard.

What's more how do I know if it's been chipped as well!

Cheers Starz

Some photos of the suspension would help, or even a side on photo. The crewmans did have heaps of clearance between the tyre and the wheel arch on the rear from the factory.
Your crewman engine is actually a Gen IV L76 not an LS2. The LS2 engine was used in HSV vehicles in Australia from 2005 to 2008 from memory.
You don't "chip" these engines (so to speak), they are tuned for better performance & economy by making changes to the settings in the factory ECU by using specialised Tuning Software designed for this specific purpose.

there may be chip in it if its a ex cop car youl find it behind the seat from mcdonalds drive through seriously but the first 6 litres were built in febuary on the thunder series crewmen although they were in hsv beforehand and executive cop cars built febuary march

As Tonner Matt said the LS2 in the VZ HSV is a different gen4 engine to the 6.0L L76/98 used in later VZ Holdens.
The HSV LS2 uses LS1 style cathederal port heads (#243) and the L76/98 uses square port heads same as LS3.
There were no factory LS2 Holdens
You do not chip these engines, they are flashed tuned using tuner software.

The cathedral heads LS1/2/6 don't flow as much as the square port heads LS3/76/77/98 .
You wouldn't normally put cathedral port heads on a 6/6.2 engine (the LS2 being the factory exception).
The LS2 was the first Gen4 engine manufactured and has the LS6 type heads with all later gen4 LS3/76/77/98 engines having the square port heads.
The only area where the LS2/6 leads the later square port is in low rpm torque but after that the square port beats it in both torque and power for less effort (porting etc).
And there is the LS7 which has different heads again, raised rectangular port and won't fit any other std LS engine.

2006 VZ SS CREWMAN
Wow thanks for the info! I left the trade in 1987 if I recall correctly and so much of what you have discussed is way above my head, but I so appreciate you guys tolerating my ignorance. But note when watching closely the Crewmans coming up for sale Aust. wide I cam across a White Crewman SS was allegedly an ex unmarked police vehicle with badges removed from the vehicle. Was pricey and somewhere on the north shore of Sydney. I research the net an found blogs where people had spoken about being pulled over by just such a vehicle? I wonder what engine mods may have been fitted to that vehicle? Mine is a June 06 SS Thunder and I wonder where I would find the engine detail/type for my beast! Think I'll grab a flash light and lift the bonnet! Ah compliance plate L76, trans M32 Sus. STD AXLE GU4, nothing to see there by the looks of it!

WA Police do not use V8's. Have not done so for a long time. (since about ~2001)

The WA wheatbelt has the majority of beautiful gravel roads that would be usable for the Crewman.
They aren't too nasty and some better than sealed roads at times.
Northam has the amazing services of "Mark's Workshop" and is a regional specialist for making engines go.
(Good Youtube channel too)
