I've seen a fair bit of stuff on here about haunted locations. I have a big old house in South Paddington C1864. It was a deceased estate when I bought it. Belonged to a doctor in his 90's (retired). But he lived in Mosman. He rented out all the rooms like a boarding house in this place in Paddo. A young heroin addict died here in 1994 of an overdose he was 23yrs. A prostitute who was living here was hit by a car working up near Darlinghurst Rd, she was thin from years of drugs she didn't make it... over the years plenty of people passed over here. I found history on the place since it's been my house. My dog never leaves the ground level unless someone is in the house. She never goes up the stairs to the other levels. Often at night she barks at stuff we cant see. It's weird ... stuff only really happens at nite. If there are a lot of people in the house ... nothing. 2-3 people in the house at nite and stuff can happen. On your own it's almost guaranteed! Between midnight - 3.30am over the years : the main staircase creaking like someone is on it ..like feet. French doors on second level blew shut while I was out on verandah & bolt went down. Had to wait for someone to find me & let me back in. Digital clock near my bed...TV came on. When downstairs can hear water running in upstairs bathroom - no one up there...the hall lights on the attic level, doors..so much stuff over the years....I've never SEEN anything but often it feels like you are being watched. I wasn't a believer in ghosts but these days not so sure.
It's a predisposed condition to the 'supernatural'. If you believe in ghosts and the like, when you are on your own natural housing creaks and freak occurrences that can have plausible explanations will immediately be a 'haunting'. Especially when you are on your own. A group of 2-3 people has a name I cannot remember, but if you stand in the middle of the street and look up, almost immediately 2-3 people will look up also. Then it becomes a group belief - there was a House episode where they thought there was an infectious disease spreading on a plane. House asked if peoples left arms were shaking, groups put their hands up and said yes, no disease in the spectrum he was treating involved involuntary spasms. Turns out the main guy they were treating was a drug mule and thats where the false thought of disease spurred from. Which brings it to the group thing, a large group doesn't trigger anything because it is harder for mass hysteria to niggle into peoples minds. Dogs hear better than humans and it is barking at things out of your hearing range. The fact he doesn't like to move around the joint may be because he is a social dog and/or protective. Until a ghost materialises in-front of me and says "Hey how you going", they don't exist mate.
very interesting mate, im henry, the creator of the haunted places in sydney thread. i know someone on this forum whos head of the central coast paranormal research group if you want me to get in touch with you?
My story isn't about a house but my work! I work at a large nursing home for Freemasons, it's over 60 years old & the old kitchen where I work has been converted into a store room for all the supplies etc. The old bathroom is still there, and it backs onto this room which we call the "archive room" where we keep old forms which are waiting to be destroyed. In the archive room are HEAPS of old pictured of freemasons, funerals, all this creepy crap which makes you go blegh and run away. Now, alot of people at my work, like nurses who work night staff etc have got many stories about the wards etc, and the residents definatley say it's haunted. Anyway, today, I was on the toilet as I normally do many times each day, when the tap started dripping. I didn't think much of it, so I kept playing angry birds on my iphone lol, when all of a sudden the tap went crazy and started running at full pelt! Scared the sh-t out of me, so after I finished as fast s I could, I ran and turned the tap off. Now, here's where it's freaky. When I turned the tap off, it felt really loose (our taps are like, long pole handles like this /"""""" /"""""" with the tap head between them, and you turn the whole lever left and right to turn the tap on and off) so I was like hmm & turned the tap back on again, and nothing happened. Not even a drop, so thinking it must have been the other tap (hot one), I tried that, but nothing happened & it was really loose, just like the other one :/ It happens alot in that bathroom. We'll all be sitting there packing boxes etc and hear a noise like rushing water, but when we enter the bathroom, the noise has either stopped, or the taps are running full pelt, and there's ALWAYS water in and around the sink. I actually filmed some footage today when I was on the toilet, cos' the tap started gurgling and dripping really fast and it stopped when I opened the toilet cubicle door, and I checked the taps but nothing :/
Well thats not fair, how come the rest of Brissie had stupid water restrictions and ghosts don't? Report that stupid ghost to the council! LOL.
I have seen a ghost before, once in my old house in Sydney, and once in my new house up here (well, my parents place now). In Sydney, I was coming out of the toilet upstair (WTF is it with me and TOILET ghosts!!) and I saw someone walk into my parent's room, so I go downstairs and I'm like "why's dad still here?" and mum goes "he left at 7" DUN DUN DUNNNNN, another time in my room I put my guitar away and turned around and for a split second it was just black, like someone was standing nose-to-note with me, freaked me out! Another time I walked out of the spare room as my brother was talking to someone & we stopped at the top of the stairs and I asked who he was talking to, and he said he just saw someone walk into my room and thought it was me. Last but not least, I woke up in my (parents old place) house and it was probably like midnight or whatever cos' it was dark, and a dark shadowy thing (person?) was sitting on my bed, like the bed actually sunk in where they were, so I immediatley freaked out and lashed out and it felt like hitting a soft pillow, seriously, I was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU WTF!! So yeah, my experiences lol.
might be stupid, but this **** scares the **** out of me. i kind of believe in the paranormal, i dont think its all bullshit, just my opinion. i have often noticed animals, specifically dogs, reacting towards things that i couldnt see etc. barking, scratching etc. and dont forget that 3am is the devils hour, or so they say. ill share an experience that happened to me just a few nights ago, would have been monday night. was laying in bed, drifting off to sleep. as i feel asleep, i started to have a strange dream, and just as i woke up, i felt something feeling the sides of my body, like something was lying on top of me and grabbing my sides. i quickly began to sit up, and as i did, i felt an instant cold feeling on my face. never been so scared in my life. weirdest thing is my grandfather had passed away on sunday. some people believe in this stuff, some dont. doesnt matter, everyone is scared when it happens to them.
Not everyone. My grandmother is very open to this sort of stuff and has plenty of stories to tell, and it doesn't scare her at all. She believes that all of her experiences have simply been family members that have passed away coming to visit her. All of her experiences have been in her house in St Kilda, the house that my wife and I are currently living in. When I was younger I used to think I saw and heard things here, but now I'm not so sure... and nothing has happened while I've lived here. I'm very sceptical about whether they exist or not, I tend to lean more towards "not", but I don't discount the idea completely. I've heard quite a few stories from very trustworthy people which keeps my mind open to the idea.
