defiantly go a V8, i went from a heavily modded Alloytec 160rwkws to a stock LS1 and the difference was obvious. funny thing is people go on about fuel eco especially in city traffic i would much rather be driving a V8 in city traffic i've done city driving in both and even if the v8 drinks more and it does they way it drives makes it worth it. serious these guys saying that v6 are good enough just obviously have not driven a v8. for us all it took was a test drive on an ssv and we knew V6 were no longer something we'd settle for. even my missus says she could never go back to a v6 "your ankle gets sore using the throttle so much, in a V8 you just rest your foot on the throttle and thats all it needs."

Also don't get an sv6/ss/ssv the standard kit in the calais is much better yes it doesn't look as good but valve for money i wish i bought a V6 calais over my SV6 in the day if you want manual(which i did) though you're screwed.

Yes things will cost more but it's the price you pay for a better life style.

yeah, no. the new sixes all sound like pure arse. Like, an actual arse. Farting.

Meh....my little farter is gonna be putt'n out close to if not more than 240kw(fly) for 40k....I could of spent an extra 8k and had 270 but the at over 2k per 7.5kw it just doesn't seem like bang for my buck especially with running costs on top. I'm sure I can live with a sound deficit if I have an engine that has forged cranks and rods standard, a baffled sump, oil jets for the pistons, VVT etc. No worries at all :)

Ever though of a berlina V8's, rare now days no longer made but drop in price quick and normally older owners.

Extra servicing cost of V8 is a croc, 2 extra sparkplugs at 100km and a bit more oil at changes = stuff all $$$$

The V8 will hold its value

A auto VE V8 will put out about 200 to 220rwkw standard(depending on dyno) add a otr tune for $1000>1200 and you can get 240>250rwkw's, thats Bang for buck.

Exaclty, for that little bit extra you pay it brings you lots of happiness, going from my 6 to 8 i still have pretty much the same amount of cash to spend as i did when i had a v6, thats including the repayments for it

bang for buck?? Don't waste your time on Holden. $500 flashtune on an xr6t will beat a $600 OTR + $1200 MAFLESS tune anyday.

Oh and from a bang for buck perspective. If you work out what you are paying per kw it is very close. But based on 48k for 270kw as apposed to 38k for 210 it works out @ $180per kw for the 6 and $177 per kw for the 8 so not much in it really but yes a slight advantage to the 8 in KW/$. Next add ya few bucks a week in fuel and insurance and it is pretty even. Of course you prolly should throw in vehicle weight as well to work out how much you are paying per kw/per tonne and in the long run it can be an argument that can go on forever. Buy whatever ya can afford, is most practicable and most fun for you as in the end ya can't compare apples and oranges.

As mentioned on numerious occassions before... If you can't afford to own and drive a V8 then don't get one. I have a VE SV6 M6 at the moment and I can tell you I can't wait till I go V8 or forced induction. I was thinking of modding the V6 but for the measly power you get out of it, it's definately not worth it. In the end it all comes down to personal preference and how far your bank account can stretch.
