Looking to upgrade my headunit for my vx series 2 executive commodores, but i would like to retain the benefits of the factory steering wheel controls which works with the factory head unit. The headunit I am looking at putting in is the following: Pioneer DEH-4150SD - Car CD player with direct USB connection and built in SD memory card slot - DEH-4150SD :: Pioneer Australia Will this headunit work with a cat steering wheel interface, which i believe converts the signal from the factory steering wheel controls into infrared so the headunit understand. Would that be correct? Anything else I would require? How easy to diy?
I could be wrong , but i thought that most aftermarket head units, that were compatible with steering wheel interfaces, stated so in the specs.
The DEH-P4150 does not have an infrared eye at the front of the unit. As you have become aware it has a wired remote input at the back of the unit. The latest CAT-10f does not support a wired pioneer remote input thus you need to use a PACSWI-PS from pacific audio. Stinger Australia distributes pac-audio so a car audio shop is your best bet. RRP is around $250. The CAT-11 will support pioneer wired and infrared but have not been given a release date as yet. Yes you are wrong, they just state that there is a wired steering wheel control input provision. I think Clarion have the interface built in on some of there new units which are just arriving now but am waiting on more info.
PAC SWI-PS Steering wheel control interface for Pioneer, Jensen, and Sony at Crutchfield.com So thats what i require to make it work? Cause i like the pioneer headunit cause it has a sd card slot.. can't seem to find any others with a sd card slot, around 500 and under. Get the pioneer headunit from ebay for around 220!
