Hi Pete.
First time I have looked at this site. I have had hearing aids for many years. (industrial deafness)
I can hear normal sounds, any high pitched sounds forget it. I only wear them while watching TV.
I am supposed to wear them all the time but can't be bothered. It is normally only a problem when
there are two sounds at the same time. Then I can't hear either.
I have put in for two claims. The first time I received a bit over $19,000. My hearing loss was 23%.
They take off 5% for natural hearing loss. You have to wait from memory 5 years for a second go.
Again they take 5% off. The second time I received about $5000. My hearing loss the second time
was for 28%. They take into account your age. In my case there were no such things as hearing
protection in my younger day. I don't think they are as kind to the younger generation who have
had hearing protection available. You must go and see your doctor first. The doctor will forward your
case to work cover. They will arrange for you to see a hearing specialist. You must be able to give
work cover documented evidence that you have worked in an industry that could affect your hearing.
In my case I had pay slips. I believe you have to go back 5 years. If you work for an employer who
provides hearing protection and you don't wear it you could have a problem. Good luck.

Cheers Keith,
What type did you get?
I wear glasses so I would like the ones you stick in your ear.
Did you try different types?

The first ones I got were the stick in the ear ones. They were molded to the inside
of my ear. They were a good fit but the quality was not good. The ones I have now
loop over my ears. They are not too bad. I get my hearing tested yearly. At my last
hearing test I was offered the stick in the ear kind. I declined for no particular reason.
I will probably get them next time depending how much I have to pay. Hearing aids
have improved out of sight since I had my first set. Both in quality and price.

I am currently in the middle of an industrial hearing claim....13% loss in both ears.....I got my hearing aids 3 weeks ago....They sit on top of the ear, with a tube that goes down to the middle of the ear....I also wear reading glasses and the glasses don't interfear with the hearing aids at all.

My claim was started by a letter being posted out to me randomly, requesting I go for a check up.....

When using them, everything sounds a little different....Sounds I haven't heard in years....Even my own voice sounds different.

The hearing aids are nearly unnoticeable....People I work with were aware the day I was getting them and they had to look to see them....It was the clear tube they noticed.

The downside is, the batteries for the hearing aids go flat every 6-7 days, however I don't pay for them....So that's a bonus. I have also been warned to wear hearing protection, because if I don't I can risk going completely deaf...

Hope this gives a little more insite
