Ok, not much of a car person so please be gentle.

The day i notice my air con not producing cold air. I started to think it may need regassing etc.

Anyway, yesterday the car got hot and i notice coolant was down, so i put some paper on the ground under the car and ran the car for a couple of minutes.

I then noticed a leak and it was coming from the heater tap (google is amazing as i am learning names )

I went to check the bottom connection and it just snapped, (where it was leaking) so i need to replace

I have looked at supercheap and can get a new one for $28,

question, fitting this, could this be a cause of making the air con not blowing cold air, or has nothing to do with it.

I plan to replace the 2 hoses from the engine to the heater tap.

Fingers cross i find this easy and not much swearing....

If the heater tap wasn't working properly (shutting off the water flow to the heater core) then it could be heating up the cooled air from the A/C and giving you the symptoms you described. Change the heater tap and hoses as you planned and see if it solves your problem, before you spend any money on the A/C system.

Yes I got ripped by an a/c person who regassed my car ( probably didn't need it ) charged me a fortune like $350 then told me my heater tap was faulty the vacuum wasn't working on it and there was no vacuum in the tiny hose that goes to the diaphragm. He told me it was most likely behind the dash and it woul dbe a big job to pull apart over $1000. Went home and bypassed the heater tap for summer what a difference this made to the a/c. However im not sure a leaking hose would cause the a/c to do this maybe your vacuum line is suspect also.

When you are working on the hoses that go thru the firewall to the heater core, do not pull or stretch them. If you need to replace them slit them with a knife to get them off. The heater core is 10 + years old now and you do not want to damage the core. Do a search on replace heater core, its a job to be avoided.
