Hi there, Anyone knows what are the tech specs for the alternators that are originally mounted on the VS? Is it possible to get a bigger one that produces more amps?
Not sure of the specs, but yes you can get a better one  sorry I couldn't help with the full question EDIT: Apparently it's 100 amps with nothing running, depending on how much bigger you want your looking at a fair wack of $$$ And your best option would probably be to put a bigger battery in...
What exactly? A battery you get from a battery store or an auto store, not quite sure where to get a powerful alterator
50 amps will do widely. Any online shop supplying that kind of gear? What kind of price am I looking at?
Not sure where to get brand new ones (I'm sure if you tried the wreckers they might have one) but you are looking anywhere around $300+
The factory fitted BOSCH alternator for the VS V6 is rated at 90A. I don't think this was ever really enough to begin with, as many of you would know, you only need to have the airconditioning and headlights on and things begin to dim, especially when you have got your indicators on too. The VT V6 had a 100A alternator, so I would imagine that this would just bolt straight up.
If the light system starts to dim when the alternator is overdrawn with a 90A then 110A will not do that much better I reckon. I'll ask my auto electrician. Cheers.
