Just wondering if anybody has had to drill out and heli coil a bolt on the thermostat housing? I broke a bolt off flush today.. Told the wife it will be 20 min job but no it took a couple of hours.. Had to go borrow a heli coil kit from my mate and drill and tap it and put back together..

why ask if you completed it? cast ally always has a chance of stripping. its the only safe way to do it

did you break bolt or strip thread i would have just easy out the bolt or welded a nut on and you'll be right. as for stripping threads above poster is right alloy strips easy ive done hundreds of heli coils on alloy heads usually on manifold side though

The bolt broke off and was flush with the valley cover where the bolt goes into.. Didn't have a easy out thing and I rang the thread doctor, that's his job and he said to drill it out and out a heli coil in it cos that's what he would do... Took the car to work today and leaks a little.. Will go get another gasket and some sealer and do it again..
