ok red lined in second gear and all i hear is a loud BANG noise come from inside my motor and a loss of power although still driveable just real noisy tapping and banging sound? Friends say it could be crank or bearings cracked? Anyway had the car towed to mechanic in Clayton, Melbourne, to a place called RE Customs who specialize in performance cars and they will be opening her up next week to diagnose what happenned. Whilst the motor is opened? what mods do u think i should install whilst its getting reconditioned? If someone can give me approx prices and best power gain mods with the Buick V6 from a VN series 1, would be much appreciated. Should i do a big CAM and have it port and polished? any ideas would be nice. Cheers, disgruntled lol.
PS: its manual and has a V8 throttle body already on it.
PSS: Places in melb where i can purchase specified parts and average prices would be good too, thanks.
PSSS: If anyone here is selling some internal engine mods for a VN V6 please message back to this thread.

does she sound like she's running on less than 6 cylinders. i.e WRX exhaust???

If so I bet you have dropped a colet. they are what hold the valves in place there are 2 colets per valve, and if one got loose tha valve wouldn't move. and it would give you a really bad tapping sound.

pull off your tappet covers and rotate your motor by hand watch that all valves move.

Redlining in second, tsk tsk tsk Theres no power gain from 4800rpm to 6000rpm or whatever there is, there's actually a power loss in vn's up in the max Revs

    Cheers

does sound like youve thrown a bottom end bearing.... spose the only way to tell is to actually take the motor apart and see..
cam and port polish jobs sounds nice

yeah common advice seems to be that its a bottom end bearing. What is involved in replacing that? just another bearing case or do you have to machine the engine where the cracked bearings might have ground away at the metal or aluminium??

if it sounds like you say it is, its a very good chance its ****ed.
its very hard to say with the info u have given us.
a screwed beaing sound in my experiance doesnt sound that bad.
its kinda like a thump thump sound not a loud clatter like a whompp whommp thud sound.
at 6000rpm it could be anything, id starting it up, and finding out where its coming from then take the rocker covers off and turn it over manualy etc.
im guessing something like a bent valve or something valve train related.

ok just found out i have blown a hole right through the bottom end of the motor and need a new short motor. As far as i know a short motor will set me back between $300 and $500. If anyone can lead me to a good supplier of vn bottom ends in melbourne area please let me know. while im getting this done any help on what higher performance pistons and crank i can use would be helpful too. cheers.
ps, where can i get my headsd ported and polished in melbourne??

Precision International for pistons, call and chat to a sales rep
Wade cams for a cam (not lumpy if it is turbo?)
    Port and polish the heads
    Upgrade valve springs
If you get a big cam, get stronger pushrods - they bend
    rocker upgrade, YT or FIT

meh thats enough $$ for now :)
