A few days ago i noticed there was Brown gunk in my Coolant overflow tube, and on my overflow dipstick. I checked my radiator, but that looked clean at the time, and i also checked my Oil to see if it was a similar colour, but it looked fine.

Today i checked it again and now the Radiator cap had some on it and i saw some floating just under the cap as the picture shows. I checked the Oil too, still no change, still looks fine.

I was told by my parents :)/) it was just Rust or shiz from the Radiator because of a leak (which i've known about for a while), or it was a Broken Head Gasket. Could it also be two cloolants mixing that didn't agree with each other? To my knowledge i've only put Tecaloy in it; 60 and 100 i believe.

Any help would be appreciated, and would it still be safe to drive it to and from work like this? Thanks :)

That looks pretty nasty and although I have no experience with blown head gaskets I would be thinking along those lines.

Check oil filler cap, any white goo under it? If oil is fine, you'll be right I reckon. That radiator needs a good flush. I reckon it needs a flush, re fill with commercial flusher, drive as recommended, then empty and fill with coolant again. My VN radiator looked just like that after a couple of years running plain water. Flush and see if it returns....

Give It a Flush, Check the Oil and Oil cap, If they are fine, Either Inlet Manifold Gaskets or the Trans Cooler is leaking into the Coolant.

I just checked under the oil filler cap and it seemed normal. I'm going to get it serviced this week; reckon it'll be fine until then? I would flush the radiator myself but i'm not that confident yet, lol.

I noticed today that the temp was being a bit strange; it was having trouble getting up to normal operating temperature, not overheating at all though. :/.

Ahhhk, well i'll get the mechanics to have a look and give me a quote. It seems like a pretty big job for me.. Considering the most I've done to a car is change the spark leads and plugs, aha.

d.k.vmatt, edals: Did you do it yourself?

I did my inlet manifold on my vn, it's acutally not too difficult, just piece by piece removal then reassemble. Everything is easily accessible and no special tools needed. Just take your time and do it right.
    My search revealed this:
    http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/holden-commodore-how-tos/187621-vs-vy-series-2-inlet-manifold-gasket-replacement-6hr-includes-pics.html
    http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/holden-commodore-how-tos/147531-vr-inlet-gasket-replacement.html
Have a search around here, you might find all the info you need to give it a crack.

Yep Done the gaskets on both my old VR and done them on my current VY. Unless you are confident and have a spare car might want to leave it. Its not hard just takes a long time and kills ya back, legs and arms lol I did have to pop out for Injector O rings the only thing i forgot as you have to remove the fuel rail and injectors. Turns out harder to find then i thought lol
