    Hi All,

I was driving in NSW today and hit a big pot hole and it split my mag...... I contacted council after i got home and they said to get a pic of the tyre a pic of the pot hole and 2 quotes so i got a pic of the tyre and went to go back and get a pic of the pot hole, by the time i got to the pot hole council had all ready fixed the hole..... Does anyone know if they will still help me or has anyone had a similar experience? I need advice ASAP as you could all imagine.......
    thanks

Wow. They fixed the pothole that quickly?

I HIGHLY doubt they will be very interesting in hearing from you without pictures of the pothole. Did you happen to tell them where the pothole is when you first spoke to them?

I rekon grab a ####ing shovel and go back there tonight.

HOLY ****! Was it a swimming pool hole ? ?
I was pissed about my bent rim, but that is just insane, get your struts & Towers checked quick smart mate if it did that kind of damage to the rim hate to think what else happened to the rest of the car !
Get onto the council quick and they will see the logs that the crew where in the area. around the time it happened. take photos of the pot hole thats already filled, if you want as mentioned dig the tar back up tonight.

I would go photograph it anyway and just explain to them its been filled today. You can tell its been filled cause its still soft ragh ragh ragh.

If they kick up a stink saying bullshit we arent fixing it because the pothole doesnt exist tell them you would like to see their logs. They will have work logs.

Its going to be a bitch getting money out of them now, but you still might be able to.

Really a shame you didnt get photos immediately.

mate a work for the council and i cracked a rim on there roads, you know what the chances are of getting money to repair that rim .... about as likely as finding a chook with teeth, sure they will have a workbook on when the road was repaired ... but councils are masters over covering up ... it dosn't take much to change a date ... sorry mate looks like you gotta fork out

councils do time sheets. so if your story lines up with the time they left that job you should be sweet.

i knew a guy that cracked a rim from a pot hole (people who know north geelong train tracks down thomos rd in geelong know they are brutal) same story, council said take pics, in the end he got no where so he bought a new rim. which my mate later jacked up his car and took those rims cause he couldnt afford to pay his debts lol

worst case and council dont pay try and make a claim with your insurance, down side is of course excess and loss of ncb but if insurance recover the money from council you get excess back. but get your car checked completely for damage that may have occurred that you may not be aware of. Good luck its happend to me and i know its wrong!

I just wrote off my HSV XU6 when we hit a pot hole. It (th hole) was that deep and sharp edged it caused the front tyre to blow and we lost control and hit a pole. Luckily we got out alive....How we did I dont know but had the same problem of the council filling in the hole I reckon before the car had even been peeled off the pole. I went and got pics showing the fresh "Roadbase" that they used and all the holes that they missed covering up obviously because it was home time or something. My partner had only just bought me my dream car and hadnt even transferred the rego yet so wasnt insured. Does anyone know if the council would help me or not?? Im devastated.....To have your lifelong wish taken away from you because of a silly pot hole is heartbreaking. If anyone could give me some advice that would be awesome. Cheers,

The council like all government are sneaky bastards and masters of deception, sorry to hear about the damage to the rim and banditz who lost a whole car. I guess thats why god invented camera phones so you can quickly gather evidence but in the aftermath there will be allot happening (even being in shock) and it can easily slip your mind. Fight the good fight guys!!

Good luck. Another good case for insuring a car before you drive it.

wow, theres a bastard of a pot hole in my street that I (and my neighbours) having been asking the council to fix for months. I'm going to call them tomorrow and tell them that my alloy wheel split on the pothole. Seems that makes them work faster.

Dont they record the phone calls?
Get a record off them with the date and time
Then a record of the work log

That picture doesn't illustrate pothole damage. It illustrates a cheap shitty rim! Any decent rim would only buckle or dent from a pot hole. Don't hold your breath waiting for council compensation. Just think of it as a good excuse to get new (better) rims! :D

OP said they were genuine rims, could be just age I suppose. Guess it depends on how good you think Holden rims are Rufys :p
