If the car cant detect neutral or park, then it wont start. It prevents it from starting while in gear. You say the car doesn't have an auto in it, so how can the car check if its in gear or not?

You quite possibly can, but you will need to bridge out the switch.

i remember i took my mums car (auto) for a drive to the shops. And when i pulled in the carpark, i just got out without putting it in park, because im use to my manual. Then when i got back in it wouldnt start and it took me a while to figure out what i did wrong. i felt to stupid haha
