Hi people.. Would appreciate some help with ideas on installing a new single cd stereo into my vz commodore. It came standard with a 6 stacker Blaupunkt unit. Problem is iv'e decided to upgrade and have got the unit out of the dash ok but i'd like to know the easiest way to install the wiring of the new one. Is it possible just get an m/f extension iso connector and Extension Ariel cable so make life easier or dosn't it work that way.
Yes, you can pick those up not a problem, as well as the required dash kit and a pocket to go underneath it all.
strathfield have emailed me to say they have what i need. Phew... sure makes life easier. Replaced 6 stacker with a US audio single head unit. Beauty about it is that it has USB and SD/MMC connectors on the side of it. :king:
did you have to buy connectors for the head unit or did you splice and solder the wires, i recently bought some connectors apparently for a vy and for a pioneer head unit but neither fitted, which means i now have to wait to get my HU installed professionally,
Well it looks like i'm going to have to solder the wires. I must of rang every auto electrical store and was told a company called aerpro look after what i needed. Trouble is there wiring oem connectors don't cover this years vz executive yet. Has any body else had any luck with getting the correct 8 pin connector yet? You will also need the aerial European to australian adaptor which they do have. :bang:
you prolly could make it yourself, the 8 pin connector, use the harness out of the original radio and wire it yourself to the original HU harness, its probally irreversible so your vz radio would be screwd, why didnt i think of this earlier, i disconnected my battery the other day and removed my radio but it didnt ask for the radio code???? strange or is it not??? mmmmmm i might pull my radio out now and look into it...
MMMMMMM.........well maybe scratch that idea, i just took a look and it prolly could be done but ill just pay the money and get it done professionally.
um dudes did you actually unplug your vz stereo??? um each stereo there is one wire that needs to eb connected while taking out the stereo as it is integrated with the ecu of the car for sec purpose. anyway just a tip!
i have a Vy not a Vz but i doubt they would differ greatly, i get my deh 9650mp installed tomorrow at tonkins.. id rather pay the cash
Its easy mate, get the VY adapter (it is the same plug on VY's and VZ's and check to see if the wires are the same when you plug it in, if not you will have to work off the colours in the main loom plug not the one you just bought, the colours for which wire does what are on the top of the original head unit, wire your new head unit to the new connctor wires, then plug it in and sit back and listen. This is how my new head unit was installed and have had no problems with it, sounds heaps better to. Enjoy
