its heaps tricky man....alot easy if it wasnt on a vr-vs. but what you gotta do as the last resort is take out the stiker bolt that holds the bonnet closed, the thing with the spring around it.
to do this you'll need to get those multi grips handy and a really big (long) flat head screw driver. you have to get up under the front bar and find the striker bolt, then you'll see it has a indent in it where you can put the screw driver, you've gotta unscrew it from the bonnet will holding a big round flat nut at the base of the striker bolt with the multi grips - its really tricky!
hope you get it sorted man.

Try getting someone to hold down the bonnet while you pull the lever from in the car. Its the only way i can get the hood up on one of my cars

Didn't I already answer this in another thread?

You don't need to hold the nut still as it is just a lock nut to stop the pin from moving. As you undo it, it will just spin out of the bonnet, once completely out and the bonnet is open you can then take the nut off the pin.

provided the cable hasn't snapped you should try just plain f***en yanking on the cable with pliers while someone pushes down on the middle front of the bonnet. keep pumping the bonnet like your giving it CPR. while someone is yanking the sh** out of the cable. it wil work eventualy

not always, there comes a point where the cable just doesnt pull the tab far enough out of the striker bolt and it wont open at all....then you've gotta do what i talked about above.

Ok i see your point, but try see mine.

The wire cable is connected the whole way to the front bonnet latch, and your pulling on the other side of the wire cable, not the lever but the cable. pulling it further and further it will eventully pop open with some help of CPR aswell.

Just think about it. Have this problem a lot at work with many cars

yeah i know what your saying man, and it works 95% of the time, getting the multi grips out and yanking the cable is the go.
but ive seen it happen in the past a few times, once on my old VN, where the cable just wont budge the tab at all to release the bolt.

Is there a certain age of the cable you should replace it or some way of telling it's on its way out?

they do stretch, but it takes quite alot of time to happen. i know in my old calais i could tell it was almost gone....i used to pull the lever ALL the way up till it touched the trim above it and also bang on the bonnet "fonzy style" to get it to open, lol.
after a while one day i closed it and went to open it again (i had a screwed water pump and was on the side of the road at the time!) and it was stuck fast.
after calling in some help i spent two hours with a mate, both my brothers, one of my brothers girlfriends dad (a ex-panel beater) and my dad all trying to get it open. in the end we had to take off the front grill (lucky it was vn and you can do that) and undo the striker bolt from the bonnet.

When all else fails, get out your angle grinder, cut around where it clips down. And its open
