Sound like the heater core mine did the same, no water in the passenger foot well but steam coming out of the air vents.
Does your car have a burnt coolant smell?

it might b comming out of the A/C pipe rather than on the floor like mine did. windows fogging up is a sure sign tho.

aircon drain pipe i mean, mine only leaked out wen i used the aircon tho, which was strange but under the car its infront of the trans pan or there abouts.

since u got no aircon ud needa get that degassed 2 fix it neways so ur better off just replacing it while u got no gas, saves u the $$ and if u do it urself, theres a couple threads in here u can find 2 help u.

If you changed the heater hoses under the bonnet when you did the hose change, you probably accidently wrenched the pipes coming through the fire wall, damaging the flimsy seal where they bolt onto the heater core tank. If you get a new heater core, make sure the pipes are welded onto the tank, not bolted like the earlier ones were......friggin' stupid idea if there was ever one!

this happenened to me when i did a coolant flush a few weeks back too. i did the coolant change at night in the garage. finished up thinking all was good after driving around for 5 minutes with the heater on, went to sleep. topped up the coolant before i left, then on the way to work, i noticed steam (though it was smoke for a few minutes in my half asleep state) coming out of the dash. i quickly pulled over getting ready to do a dash for the fire extinguisher, and realised it didnt smell like something burning, but more like coolant. i cautiosly drove on anyway, and it went away after 20 minutes. when i got home i topped up again (hours later obviously, so i could remove the radiator cap). i noticed a grommet on the flywall was not on properly, so i pushed that in correctly.and the steam never happened again.
but.. i KNOW i have a slight intake manifold leak (leaking coolant) so was left thinking that steam came out the manifold leak, because of less coolant than meant to be had been bleed through the motor yet. with the grommet on the flywall dislodged, the steam came from the engine bay, through the grommet into my dash.

it spun me out a lot when it happened.

check your flywall grommets first probably jonboy

oops. i just read further that your carpets got wet.
    disregard my advice sorry mate
did u put the tablets in when you replaced the coolant. i find they are good for stopping older rubber pipes from popping off. a bit like a sealant. i didnt use them one time and my whole top hose popped off. luckily not too far from work

    hi
yea im waiting to hear back from various radiater shps regarding a new heater core, thanx ill make sure its a welded one and not bolted. ill definatly check that the gromets are fitted correctly tho, and no i didnt use any tablets from holden, its a 304 v8 do i need them??
no i didnt replace the heater core hoses (yet).
i think that maybe it has leaked under the carpet for some time i just hadnt noticed but when i did a flush it amplified the problem.
anyway i have bypassed and no more smoke and smell so thats good and i have the carpet lifted and seat out to try dry it some what.
after i have fixed the heater i will remove all seats and carpets and get them properly cleaned.
    thanx
