hi all, so i have a vr auto and have just had a 2nd hand motor put in a few weeks ago and the gears have started sticking and the engine sounds a bit rough/dry, its got plenty of oil. just wondering if this would be fixed with a tune up? or if its something more?

Check that you have a VR engine fitted and not a VN-VP as the electrics which control the auto are different.

I really cannot tell you....but check back to where the motor came from - the wreckers or whoever should know. The auto on the VR needs the engine to tell it when to change (via wire) whereas the VN-VP had a non-electronic auto which did its own thing with help from the kickdown cable.
If the VR auto doesn't get told what gear it should be in then it goes into "limp home mode" which means it only uses 2 gears and basically makes the car "limp".
