Just wondering if my tranny is on its way out... 1st-2nd all good... 2nd to 3rd seems strange, when it hits 3rd it will slip down a little in 3rd gear. Then 3rd to 4th it will slip up a bit...Mainly with the 3rd to 4th thing it normally only does it when I do it manually. Also when I'm going about 80km-100km and ease off the accelerator it will jump up and down on 1500rpm, so say 1400rpm-1600rpm...You can hear it and it really gets me wired...Is that part of it electrical and the slipping is old age? Done 202xxxkm Cheers
sounds like the converter locking/unlocking. if it is, it could be a costly rebuild. when was the last time it was serviced? when was the last time the fluid was changed? what does the fluid look like and check the fluid level first (when up to temp and engine running) however, also have a good look at your ignition, an ignition miss can also feel like a transmission problem. make sure you have good sparkplugs and the leads are in good condition
Yeah cheers guys but I did the tranny fluid, filter, gasket about 30,000km ago, the fluid was clean enough to shower in lol and no dodgey bits in it... Would a stage 2 shift kit fix these issues? Cheers
a stage 2 shift kit just changes the way the fluid travels through the transmission (usually it has bigger holes on the sperator plate) + stronger accumulator springs etc and corvette servo so that it accumulates the fluid faster for a quicker gear change and puts more pressure on servo and band so it hold the 2nd gear better. most stage 2 shift kits don't do anything for the 4th gear, however you can get a new piston/servo to increase the pressure there also. unfortunatly if your box is on it's way out putting a shift kit in it won't solve your problems. it may be best to take to a strans outfit who can diagnose the fault correctly and give you a price to fix
30,000km is quite a bit, I'd say give it a service. I do mine every 10,000k's and yes its crazy but I do myself and the tranny have never missed a beat since the car was brand new. It now done 250,000k's!! The fluid should be reddish in colour, not brown.
nar I don't think I need to change it and waste more money because It was doing It before the change... And yes it is red as can be... I might just leave it and get a SS manual in the near future...Maybe take it to the tranny joint...
