Today I took off my dash facia to spray it/ customise it and I toook off the headlight switch and it threw all the bearings and springs everywhere and is unoperational help.
Unless you can find all the pieces and put it back together successfully then you will need to get another switch. You could probably get the lights working by bridging 2 terminals on the connector but I don't know which 2. Perhaps someone else can tell you.
Happened to a mate when he took it out for me to spray as well, found all the pieces and stuff, but was near on impossible to fix it 100%, cause we couldnt get the little bearing in and close it. It still worked, but it didnt "click" into place, and was a bit loose. Easiest was would be just get one from the wreckers, thats what my mate did, readily available thing!
Yes your right I`ve got it to work loose it took me a while to get the head lights & dash lights to come on at the same time. The step now is to get another switch right? I can get one for $35 new but how would I get the old headlight switch plastic surround off (apparently it justs pops out with the electrical (breakable f*ckn thing) still attached, therfore I did not need to disconnect the 4 little clips at the back of it. or buy a whole dash with the switch already attached I`m lookn on net cause we only got one wrecker and he only got real early girls and some VP`s.
i've seen the switches on ebay but how the hell do you get them off without them falling apart? i would prefer not to take my dash off again, its about the last thing on my dash for me paint
Thats the million $ question how the hell are ya gona get the switch off after this incedent I`ve talk to people and the only answer I`ve got was pry the part with the symbols on the switch to a certin point and then twist and it comes off (apparently). Something semingly so trivial and not many people Know how to deal with the "dreaded VR/VS headlight switch" lol..this is a joke, seriously.
directly from gregorys manual "carefully pull the headlamp combination switch outer knob and and then the rheostat ring (dashlight dimmer knob) from the switch. using a suitable tool or long nose pliers, turn the switch retaining bezel anticlockwise and withdraw the switch from the instrument cluster surround panel. installation is reversal of the removal procedure" of course, this is once you've removed the wiring from the switch, and the dash is out of the car
Cheers, good old gregory`s, my bloody haynes manual just says that the device differs from model to model, to lazy or what.
