Help!! Vl won't start!

Hey guys I'm new here!

I have a 88 VL Calais rb30 N/A

It won't start, has spark and fuel, brand new leads, plugs, coil, CAS, reco distributor
Took the cat off in case it was blocked (people tell me if it's blocked it will not start?)
New distributor cap, timing is at 15 degrees checked the timing 10 times today.
All fuses are ok all relays are clicking as per normal, checked injector loom no splits or cuts in the wire, new ecu, plugs of ecu were coroded, cleaned them. I'm at my end. Spent a solid 7 hours on it today all to not start, fuel pumps are rather new aswell.

Any idea????????? Please help

Check the AFM and replace fuel pump. This problem has been covered 100 times over including for me lol

Why do u have this problem...? Because.......VL! Haha

Haha seems to be pretty common, can I buy a new AFM? There's 2 fuel pumps right? Which one do you think?

I got an AFM off a mate for free. But ur looking at a good $300 for a new AFM. Ur best off getting one from the wreckers, hopefully it's not stuffed either coz they never do refunds. And I changed the external pump, $70 free postage off eBay

Search the forums or google. Coz it's the most common
Problem for the vl's we have said it Sooo many times its getting annoying.

Yes there is 2 pumps. An onternal(inertia) and high pressure (external) try a mates afm first. Or unplug your afm and start your car. If it starts and idles fine your afm is failing

Yeh what nath said. Search what ur problem is and add just commodores at the end and it'll direct u somewhere helpful on here.

I've looked, they all have similar symptoms but they always seem to fix there problem with the parts I have already changed. I have a general idea about vls, thought there mightve been something technical about them but it seems you just need to go as you go - process of elimination, thankyou guys.

That's it. In saying u have "checked" things and say they r fine. How u know for sure they r not failing.
The rb30 is quite an easy engine to work on

My car ran "fine" till the afm failed on me in the middle of the road. Not fun.

I replaced my CAS when it failed, and within a week of converting the VL, had to replace the CAS cos it failed again. Touch wood it's been alright so far...

I had a similar problem to that the other night. I was at the lights and when I took off I peaked 1st gear then hit second and my car died because the pipe popped off the afm. So I was rolling down the highway with nowhere to go except left and had to cut off a B-Double to get to breakdown lane lol. My old man is a truck driver so I can only image what old matey was yelling at me :/
