Hey guys, I picked up an S-pac boot lid for my VR, and just wanna know a few things before i put it on.

How do i setup the new boot with all the cables, ie boot release and all that?

How do i change the locks over?

Anything else i should know about?

Thanks, any help is much appreciated

This is how I'd do it.
First thing: open boot - undo 2 large phillips head screws holding latch in bootlid - unclip cable boot release cable - unplug all electrical plugs to lamp units - manouver cables/plugs back out thru the openings near the RH hinge - unclip the boot gas struts and prop bootlid open - undo hinges and remove - lay bootlid on floor next to new bootlid and just swap over what you need - the lock is held by a clip which you prise off with a screwdriver. Assembly is reverse!
Good luck with aligning the new boot as it can be frustrating.
You can be real smart and take some digital pix of the assembly before pulling apart.....you can then refer to these when scratching head.
    Good Luck.

Yeah, thanks heaps man, I've got no probs aligning the boot or anything, ive had to do it before when me mate ran up my ass. But Im thinkin the most annoying part will be the boot release and the locking mechanism. Thanks again

Trust me - they are easy. One trick that may not apply in your case is to tie a piece of cord to the wires etc before you pull them out so you can then use the cord to pull the wires etc back in ...though if your new lid has no wires then it wont be possible.

The new lid does have the wires, we just cut them off at the top of the lid when we took it off the car. But yeah ill try and feed em through, but ill make sure i know where everything goes before i take em out lol. But is there anything i should know about the actual lock? like were u put the key in?

The key mechanism is connected by a rod to the latch mechanism....the rod has a plastic clip which you unclip from the rod (eyeball it and you'll know what I mean) - you need to first unclip this plastic rod connector then you will see on the inside of the key mechanism a spring steel clip that holds 2 sides of the lock against the metal. There is a raised lip on this spring steel which you grip with a flat screwdriver and lever away from the key mechanism. Then the lock will drop out the other side. To reinstal hold the lock in place and slide the spring steel clip aling the ridges on the side of the lock.

Ok, boot is now on, wasnt as hard as i thought it would be, did it all by myself although i prob should've had a hand to hold it up etc. but the locks and all that were pretty easy, easily understood when u actually look at it and all that. All wiring was simple as was boot release. I sort of aligned it, like it shuts but i have to shut it hard, but it lines up down the sides n stuff, but ill get dad to give me a hand makin it perfect. Thanks for ur help
