Solid Flywheel Conversions are Noisy on VS S2.

Since you talk about converting to a solid flkywheel, I assume that you have a VS S2 with a Getrag gerabox.

With that setup there are a number of things that could cause the rattle that you describe.

I recently had the clutch done on my VS S2. I considered changing to a solid flywheel, but was told that it was very noisy in neutral. Decided to stick with the standard setup for that reason.

    Could be just that.

Back in the old days we always started the car with the clutch in to let the starter motor turn the motor only over without the drag of the gearbox as well. Then we had 6 volt electricals which were pretty poor. You'll still find a lot of blokes over 50 who still start with the clutch in due to old habits. Unless you want to spend more dollars it may be easier to keep the clutch in when starting.

some cars dont start without the clutch in, and its always safe to have it in if the car is parked in 1st gear, dont want to hop forwards now...
