Hello I’ve recently brought a commodore drove fine when got it is starting to sound like a diesel not sure what the go is have tried a few things but nothing is working has anyone had this problem is a 2006 vz 3.8lt alloytech

Does sounds like the chains are cactus,
but,
I'm tipping the lower plastic chain guide has dislodged/snapped off.

Check powertrain comes on and off and check oil

Check power chain possibly be chain loose, needs to be scanned to see what its recorded.
Check oil meaning no/low oil, and/or oil pump has failed, or is on its last legs,

I wouldn't run it anymore,
Because you could have iron fillings circulating
Tow it, or push it to area where you can work on it,
Id be pulling it down ASAP,
That said, that job requires the correct tools, as its not easy/strait forward job.
