Hopefully someone can help me. Ignition lights are on and I can hear the fuel pump engage, I turn the key and I hear 1 click and then no response (car does not start). I turned the key about 5 times & I saw smoke coming from the starter motor area. I also checked the oxygen sensor cable and it looked like it was touching the exhaust I have checked the battery and volts are between 13-16. Tried to clutch start with the ignition on to no avail. Has anyone else experienced the same type of problem?
Hmmmm.... you made the fatal misatke of letting the smoke out... now it doesn't work! never never let the smoke out! (joke for the nerds) Starters stuffed mate. TIme for a newie. The o2 sensor has nothing todo with the issue. Car will start without an o2... run rich as hell or lean as the ducks nuts but still run non the less. You problems lies with the starter motor. aZk.
Same thing happened to me last year. There was sparks!!! And smoke!! Get changed soon. Don't just keep starting the car and pray. you will drain your battery.
