for the antenna to only go up when ur listening to the radio, the deck has to have that feature built in, to test this do this.

1. turn on deck
2. play radio
3. test remote wire, check with test light if power on great.
4. change to cd, if light goes off, then it will let you drop the antenna when playing cd.
if it doesn't you can always wire your own switch to cut the antenna when ur not needing it.

cheers.

ok my bad, I call the antenna wire the remote wire, thought they were the same thing.
same principle, for my testing just check the antenna wire for power when in cd mode.

the head unit is is pioneer
Pioneer's have a common problem... They have an internal fuse in the RCA circuit which blows quite easily and then causes engine noise through amplifiers. This has most likely happened.

Also Pioneer headunits are notorious for putting up the antenna even when they don't need it. :(

Buy a brand with both an antenna wire and a amplifier wire then OR get a tech to add an antenna wire :)
