Sell v6, buy v8.

Advice needed:
I want a cheap arse old v8
- If so, how old should I go? (5.0L, 5.7L, 6.0L)
- What one of these will keep me happy for 5 years of progressively adding mods?

I want an older car because - say my budget is 20k (I think I can sell v6 for around 18-20k *maybe*. I got 66k km's). Lets say I blow my budget on a new-ish VE V8 for all my budget. I can't then mod or fix anything cuz i just used all my money.

So if I get like a VZ or an older VE for like 12-13k, I would have enough money to fix or mod if required.

Is this a good way to go about purchasing my replacement v8?

Also are they tuneable to get reasonable fuel economy?

If you're really chasing power, the 5L based V8s are terrible for it. Excessive fuel usage and a lack of aftermaket parts don't help, early Delco tuners seem to be drying up too.

Just FYI too, if you're actually looking to sink money into it or keep it in the medium term, don't buy something worn/with problems out unless you're planning to strip it out and build it from the ground up.

You can get a VZ Manual LS2 Clubsport for cheapish these days.
Or a VE SS which is good stock. Just change rear mufflers for a cheap mod for sound. Or go all out and change everything.

Agreed, unless stroking and charging.....but they win hands down for sound and to a certain degree, feel.

Besides the fact that it's a ford? In all honesty I think they are great bang for your buck. Also they will make a great long term investment, think vl turbo, xa coupe. Right now they are a real Bogan car, once all the fpfq people have destroyed their rides, they will probably become quite sought after.

Additionally barra power is cheap to upgrade. Just my opinion

Have you got a ve sv6? You won't get 18}20k for it.

Go a early ve SS with L98's cheap to mod and getting cheap like 12}15kwith mods already done

It isn't a v8. That's about it, you'll get tons of power for such a small investment compared to any v8.
