Hi there! I just bought a VN calais and it runs pretty good but there is one deepish sqeeking noise, the guy said it was from the tires could it be that?? just wondering so i can fix it thanks !
just when your driving like on occasions, and it sounds like under near the wheels, i can't really discribe the noise though sorry!
Oh and I havent bought the car yet, Its $2100, its got decent metalic champane paint, its got 239km, The interior is mint, but the radiator blew up on us today when we were testing it, he said he would fix that, it doesnt come with a remote, not sure if its ment to??? its got a inlet gasket manifold leak, Yay or nay????
driving straight or when you drive around a corner/roundabout? could be brakes, next time it does it slightly touch the brakes and see if it goes away (not hard enough to apply them but take up the slack between the rotor and the pad) It should have a single button remote being a calais but that could have given up years ago, just put an aftermarket alarm in. Inlet manifold leak, quite a common complaint for the V engine's, if you're handy with tools it's a simple enough job, few threads about it on here. If it's in good condition and clean then so long as you're happy with it, price is within insurance market value (think they might be worth a little bit more but not many people would pay anymore) plenty of vn's around but not a lot of calais these days
My insurance compay said market value for a vn v8 calais is 5500 in good condition.. My vn calais remote has 2 buttons, 1 for the doors and 1 for the boot to open..
they're still holding their value then? did a quick search when i posted n saw around 2600 and up, last check mine was insured for around 4000 but that was a while ago. as i said not a lot of vn calais' if it's clean then sure but generally it's someone that wants one that'll pay that price, unless it's had money already spent on bushes, shocks etc chances are with it's age they'll be due.... if you're just looking for a nice car to drive around in then you should find something decent for 2k i've seen plenty of vr/vs at car yards under 2k that looked clean and tidy
I have $3500 budget, Super keen on a Manual unless its a calais or statesman! waiting sucks haha, hyundai power ftw jks
if it needs work 2k seems a little rich. i paid 300 bucks for a vp berlina v6 off the jc forums. by the time it was on road and reg'd it owed me 2.5k. i did a laundry list of stuff to it as well, basically saved it from the crushers. i know what im getting though cause i did all the work myself, and even then the tranny has now developed a flat spot and will be due for a rebuild by the end of the year... before you buy get a roadworthy write up on it. price out what can be done by you and what has to be done by a mechanic... last thing you want is to get stuck buying a car for $2k car that needs another $2k in work.... x2 on the roadworthy question...
Nah it doesnt have roadworthy, im just gonna let it go, how much you guys reckon a VR calais would go for or manual vt?? btw thanks for all yoour help guys, really good forum here !
For what it's worth my daughter got a mazda 626 sedan '97 for $3,250 in a private sale. Standard gear includes ABS and dual airbags for late 90s mazda 626. Very tidy car and quite economical. Great first car. More autos than manuals but you can find them in manual. Worst thing is there isn't a forum for mazdas that's a patch on this one. Cheers and enjoy the search
i replaced my 89 ford telstar (mazda 626) for the vp calais. best thing i ever did. i was spending about 6 to $800 bucks a year on that POS. unless you run a jap wreckers and get parts for free stay away from any mazda thats over 10 years old, they have a shelf life. either that or see if pick a part has a yearly pass you can buy cause youll need it... mazda is the reason why im bald...
