My quote was from my local O'briens, the reason they gave for the high cost was because of the chrome trim that run thru the window rubber, I sourced my own nos window rubber with chrome strip for $100 and had a local independent fit it with new screen for $275
The chrome/rubber moulds for the Stato front screen are about $50 trade. They were quite the cash cow back in the day. I used to convince folk to go the plain rubber for $20 though.
I tried getting a genuine mould from Holden but they couldn't help, there is an aftermarket one I could have got for $30 but wanted genuine as there is a difference. Aftermarket Genuine
$1750 quote from the only Suzuki dealer in Ipswich for a logbook service on a 2010 Grand Vitara. got the same sevice done for $326 including platinum plugs and filters etc from the local mechanic also $96 for a headlight bulb from the same dealer which I ended up getting from the local spare parts place for $16
Better call, the aftermarket is reusable, plastic chrome. The genuine Stato design was by the Holden retard division, who also brought us the VT SI mould configuration.
One of the reasons I drive Holdens is that I used to drive the other lot. I had a leaking valve on the power steering rack. Quote about 20 years ago was $125 plus part. Bought the part myself, looked at it for a couple of minutes, realised the difficulty was getting a normal size spanner in the area to undo and reinstall the new one. An old Honda motorcycle spanner did the job without any difficulty. Job over in less than 10 minutes.
$190 for stress relief at "Centre Folds Escort Services" Labour = half an hour Real time = 2 minutes.... *sigh*
850 for a headlight for a proton, got a brand new one delivered for 85 from one of jc's old sponsers.
It's 250 for the single use only chrome moulding on the stato windscreens (vq to vs stato) $230 for screen and standard mould $30 or $50 for fake chrome mould that doesn't last long or $250 for the proper mould. avg quotes from austral (mobile guy) and o'brien tuggerah
Man, I just got a windscreen done in my vp for 140. My boss got it for me, he has an account with a1. But you would have to be insane to pay more than 300 haha!
lol, when I was restoring the beetle, I called o'brien about a windscreen... $900. Wasn't too surprised, figured it wouldn't be an instock part need to order it and so on and so forth. Figured I'd make a couple of calls anyway.... $220 fitted, most people had it in stock.
Yep I bought it there, it had a used car warranty for 3 years - but it meant they would need to keep servicing it, charging me $100/hr to do so. in the 1.5 years since then, the only repair that I needed (that would have been covered by warranty) was a seal on the transmission that only cost $50. The above figure was used as a bluffing tool to get me to stay there and keep warranty. I reckon new water pump fitted would be no more than a few hundred dollars.
$15 for a rear number plate light on a VS ute $280 supply and fit front pads on a VZ ute as they were 'in desperate need of replacing, they might have another few thousand Km to go'. Drove around for another 30,000Km and even when they did get replaced they didn't really need to be. Both from Gerald Slaven Holden in Canberra.
