As far as I know, thats not the regulator.
I recently replaced mine on a vs stato. its located on the left of the fuel rail, there are 2 hoses off it, one is the fuel return hose and the other is the Vacum hose.
the reg actually bolts into the fuel rail with an allen key bolt at the rear.
The thing on the right of the motor is an adapter of sorts. My mech couldnt tell me what it was nor was it included in the service manual as far as i could see.

Isn't the regulator on the RHS just near the brake booster (shown near a red thing on that photo)???

Yeah, kinda what i was meaning, LHS when looking at the motor, RHS when looking from the dirvers seat!
The red thing is the Auto trans oil dipstick.

You are correct, the fuel regulator is on the LHS looking at the engine. The thingy on the RHS is called a fuel dampner..............and god only knows what it does exactly as even the Holden workshop manual does not describe its purpose. Just sits there betwen the fuel injector rail output and return to the fuel tank.

It doesn't really matter a whole lot, but yea as peanuts said, it stops that pulsation of fuel, I've only ever removed it if upgrading fuel pump.
