Wow... a lot of unnecessary argument here. Let's put things into perspective. Holden made money for GM right up until the early 80s...buckets of it. Then Holden had loads of financial problems at the time of the VC/VH. It took the VN for the company to turn around and become very profitable again under Peter Hanenberger (or "Handlingburger" as he was nicknamed for pushing for RTS when he brought to Australia).

The bigwigs at GM in Detroit didn't give a toss about Australia as long as it made them money. It is no longer making them money, hence the current situation. The CEO and her minions DON'T CARE about the tiny market in Australia. They really don't. WE have a lot of pride in Holden because, to us, it really was "Australia's Own Car". Sentimentality aside, no one in GM North America gives a sh#t about Holden. South Africa lost GM because they pulled the pin. The same thing will happen here next year, for sure. The Holden brand will either be retired or sold to an importer. There's not really much in the way of product coming from GM's current factories that people seem to like here.
