Holden captiva lx aircon issue

Hey guys, this isn't commodore related but I need desperate help.. This is the 3rd time that my cars aircon has stuffed up n I've taken to Holden to be fixed, now it's happened again n this morning they gave me a quotation for $4000!!! WTF! I just walked out! They didn't even explain what needs to be done, just yeh $4000. Can anyone help me?
Symptoms:
When you turn aircon on, it blows air but not cool/hot, no errors come up.. When I turn the car on and ten the aircon on the fans do not spin..
Any help appreciated

Dude i think my craptiva got similar problem - air con dont work- took to the dealer -they regas it-still dont work. Electrician came and check and no eletrical problem. wtf???? no wonder holden gona die - and i wouldnt feel sorry if it does

Crap. As a fellow Captiva owner, I hope I don't get this hassle on top of the others we have had.

Just a guess, but if the system has a leak and has lost sufficient gas, it will operate but won't cool. If the gas pressure loss is sufficient, the system won't work at all because the gas contains a lubricating oil for the compressor and if it was to be run "dry", the compressor could seize.

Go to an air-con specialist. They won't cost anything like Holden charge and probably get the job from the local Holden dealer anyway because if the evaporator is the cause of the leak, the dash panel has to be extensively stripped out to remove the evaporator. Dealers don't like those jobs and usually sub-let them to the local specialist, then add their little bit on top when you pick the car up.
