Currently have a problem with this vehicle that will not start when it is hot on moderately hot days after being driven, say about 40 km. Runs fine & after turning off, it will not restart (Engine Turns Over, But Will Not Fire). If vehicle is left until it cools or overnight it starts & runs again. No Mil light on. As it was showing the symptoms of a failing crank sensor a known good sensor was fitted and seemed to be okay. However now the days have warmed up the vehicle wont start when day temp reaches 40’. Starts fine on cooler days & customer is not game enough to drive it any distance in case it wont start again. The vehicle was left at workshop and have been starting it every day & starts every time. But last Sat day temp was 45’. Went to start and eng ran & stopped. Connected fuel pressure gauge, which showed nil pressure while rotating engine. The next day, was much cooler & engine started & ran fine ??
Connect scan tool & BCM code 18 showed both as history & recent – Instrument code 18 also history & recent (After Market CD Player Fitted – Which Is Most Likely For This Code)
What is confusing me is in cooler weather, vehicle seems ok & when weather is moderate, engine will not start after being ran. Now 40’ days and engine will not start (Nil Fuel Pressure Evident – But Starts And Runs Fine The Next Day In Cooler Weather
Although BCB 18 was active why is it so erratic in starting
Any ideas in pointing me in right direction would be appreciated
Cheers & Regards

Sounds like a crank angle sensor, particularly as there's no fuel pressure while the engine is cranking (when the ECU receives the signal it turns the fuel pump on, no signal means no fuel). Not starting when hot is a super common symptom for the sensor, usually you can test by pouring cool water over the sensor when it doesn't start, but even if that doesn't work I'd replace it.

vs commodore
So you put a second hand cas in that you think was ok, buy a genuine sensor.

Thanks guys for your reply - Thing is CAS that was fitted was new & genuine. Had another VZ wagon a couple of moths ago that wouldn't start, although had fuel pressure & much cooler weather. ECM, BCM, BUS modules & key sent away for checks & all came back with a clean bill of health. Upon refitting all as removed, engine started & has not played up since. As battery was disconnected during the time of these items being checked (Approx 4 days turn around), it was put down to possible computer gremlin in system, which does happen at times. In fairness to customer, new CAS was removed & original refitted. As previously mentioned vehicle has not had a problem since ?.
Also understand the cold water bit, but this is impossible to do as CAS is located under exhaust manifold, rear of engine. Maybe I forgot to include that engine is a 3.6 Ltr V6 Alloy Tec LEO
