While power output will increase with engine speeds above maximum torque, an engine will always be most efficient where it generates maximum torque. It might be interesting to calculate the BMEP at maximum torque for each of those engines and see if the ranking changes.

BMEP = kW x 1200/litres x rpm

bmep = 216 x 1200/7.4 x 4000

I get 8.75 for yours.

259200 / 29600 = 8.75

you know. division before multiplication.

now stage 2. lets look at pure maths and how it interacts with the world around us
lets see if somehow we can relate that to an engine and its efficiency for better accuracy

The BMEP is based around design efficiency, not fuel efficiency.
