i dont know much about holden in general and i was wondering if somebody could help me out. as you would obviously know holden commodores come in a range.

eg. exec, berlina, calais, acclaim

and also others like the luxury editions such as statesman and caprice

what do they all mean. what are the differences and why are they like that.

cheers

In the commodore range there is:

Executive - Base model

Lumina - Limited edition executive with some extra feature such as larger alloys, A/C, some power options

Equipe - Another limited edition executive, very similar to the Lumina but with a few differences

Acclaim - Like an exec but with a few extras such as cruise, extra airbags etc. Depends on the model (VY or VZ etc.) as to the extras

Berlina - Different bodykit and alloys, interior trim etc. and more options in terms of electrics, audio and airbags.

Calais - Top of the range commodore (although not actually called a commodore). Luxury interior and different outside bodykit. Full power options, airbags etc.

S pack/SV6 - High output or supercharged V6 since the VS commodore, before that they just had the same power as a standard commodore. Different interior, alloys and bodykit similar to that of the SS commodore. More options on the interior.

SV8 - Same kit as the SS and has a V8 but not as many options or as luxurious/stylish as the SS.

SS - V8 with sports bodykit and wheels and sporty interior. Lots of options on the inside and airbags etc.

Statesman and Caprice are the longer wheelbase versions... Starting with the Statesman, then the Caprice which is the most luxurious version.

For the VE line-up it is basically explained as the following for the model line-up:

Functionality = Omega, Berlina

Luxury = Calais, Calais-V

Performance = SV6, SS, SS-V

The Omega is somewhere between an executive model and an acclaim model. There will also be a Commodore V limited edition similar to the Lumina and Equipe, with extras such as alloys, AC, colour coded mirrors and handles etc.

Berlina stays the same in the line-up but there is now the Calais-V which is now the ultimate in luxury for the VE line-up. Calais is still a luxury car, but doesnt quite have as many options as the Calais-V.

SV6 stays basically the same in the line-up, but the SS is now similar to the SV8 but better :p The SS-V is similar to the VZ SS-Z but basically takes the SS' old spot in the line-up.

As for the exact differences in power options etc., it depends on which model it is. As the VZ Berlina has different options to a VN berlina etc.
