Boy that's a beauty. Great bum, nice interior. Really hope to see this thing get restored.
has anyone heard how the project has evolved since 2012?
I have. lol
Had way to many distractions, one being uni. Got halfway sorting through paper work and photos woring out what we should and shouldn't do.
Then got loaded with assignments and other crap. Haven't seen the car for a few months now, bit of a pitty.
Any updates, Spud?
I see action here...
that shell originally never had a diff....
it was made as a pre-production trial to test the 'quality' of the glassing that was possible back then.
When the GTR-X project got cancelled, the one at Langlang got trashed, the white one in the brochures
got stashed out to grass...and the orange shell got put on some 44gal drums out the back of Experimental
Engineering at FB.
In 1979 or 1980, I and a couple of Forward Model finance guys got told by one of the Senior Engineering
employees that the orange shell was going to the tip. We went to the Finance Director Bill DeLong and asked
if we could buy it. A few days later the shell had gone from the drums and was later seen upstairs in the
'design' area of the Engineering Building and then outside in the corner of the area where proposed vehicles
went on display (for the GMH directors and other Senior GMH Product development to view). It was still there
a few years later when I left, sitting on the ground under a tarp.
Not much happening, just moved storage location for a bit.
So I ran into the guy that now owns this car. He's got the majority of the bits for it that exist and the drawings but theres still a lot of things that will need to be fabricated like tail lights and such. Doubt there will be progress any time soon though as its one of his many cars in his shed that and being built/restored.
So I've just re read the thread and turns out I'd say I know your GF's grandpa lol, some of the photos in here are what he showed me on his phone. And according to him has a VIN number so could be registered once finished.
Thought you'd be interested.
I've got one of them, were given out to Holden employees back in the day.
The car never had any VIN numbers or body numbers stamped on it !!
You mean Phill Zmood

Are you still involved @spud_22 ?
Also, condolences for the family's loss.
Hey mate, yeah still involved. It’s now the family car and the father in-law is doing most of the work on it.
