Holden has returned to market leadership with its best ever February sales result, driven by record sales of Astra and Rodeo.

Holden recorded total sales of 15,193 units in February, achieving 18.8 per cent market share - 63 units ahead of nearest challenger Toyota.

Astra led Holden’s February charge with a new sales record of 3,135 units, sealing Astra’s No.1 position in the Small Car segment.

The Astra line-up will be further boosted later this year with the introduction of Astra wagon and Astra three-door coupe – unveiled this morning at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

Rodeo posted its strongest ever February result with 2,103 units, also clinching segment leadership.

For the fifth consecutive month, Holden’s versatile ute range outsold the competition. Holden Ute, Crewman and One Tonner sales totalled 1,617 units in February, consolidating Holden’s light commercial leadership.

Holden maintained its No.1 position in the passenger segment with market share of 21.7 per cent. Commodore extended its reign as Australia’s most popular passenger car with 5890 units, outselling nearest rival Falcon by 1,240 units.

Holden Executive Director Sales and Marketing, Ross McKenzie, said February’s 14.5 per cent growth in the small car market heralded a strong year for Holden, particularly for its four-cylinder range.

“Holden’s February record lays the foundation for an Astra-led resurgence in the small car market in 2005, with more new models to come.” Mr McKenzie said.
“After only two months, the total market is close to 10,000 units ahead of last year and tracking towards the magic one million mark.”
