Holden Nostalgia

I’m interested in knowing what your first Holden was, was it your first car?

How did you come upon Holden in the first place? Family member? Friend? Just liked the look?

My first car was a VX SS Sedan, black, standard, no mods.

Always had an interest in Holden, both parents were Holden, Dad had a HQ Sandman, VR SS, VS SS, Mum had a Torana, not sure what model, VN SS, the VS SS was so nice looking back now, that greeny colour, can’t remember what series though, Mum later on had a VX SS, now a Holden Astra GTC Sport.

Dad has some fuckin’ hybrid Camry ****, haha.

I’ve had a VX SS sedan, VY SS ute, VY SS sedan, now have the VZ SS ute & VF SSV Redline, when I hit the roo a couple months back I look around at new cars & honestly didn’t like most things locally, sticking with the VF, crash repairs, RAA assessor & mechanic have told me DO NOT sell the VF unless I absolutely have to.

I remember when I was younger a kid in my class, his parents would get a new Holden SS every 1 or 2 years, unreal, they were so nice to look at.

first? .. Dad's FX (aka 48/215)
he sold the Austin7 he had when I came along... no back seat you see, nowhere to put the bassinet
and needing a family car bought an FX, in that dusky green colour.
and
at age 5 or so, I was helping him de-coke the grey motor twice a year (still have his genuine GMH service manual for it)
then
I bought a 149 powered EH at age 15 1/2 .. piece of crap, bent from an accident and I didn't know better!

So when i went out to work just after turning 17, started saving (yeah HEAPS on a wage of $23 a week!) and eventually
( a year on and the red rattlers drove me nuts!) I had enough for another car. Got $49 trade-in on the EH on a low mileage
Holden HD X2 manual sedan which was for sale for $599 at my local Holden dealer in used cars....
and
over 50 years later, have a VF GenF HSV Tourer (last one with a manual gearbox apparently)

In the middle, more Holdens that you can poke a stick at (helped by working at GMH for just over 8 years
and having GMH company cars that had to be turned over every 10,00km or 6 months). Also bought a few
for the family to drive

Dad's first work ute was FC, then EJ, HD, HG .......... which took him all over far SW QLD, with no problems except regular broken windscreens and blown tyres. Considering the roads back then, pretty impressive reliability.

First holden purchased i was 17 or 18 a 70 hg kingswood still have to this day fair few hq-wb's they where the best cars and kicking myself for selling them

The VZ SS Ute 6.0l is the Thunder isn’t it? As there wasn’t a series II VZ SS Ute.

Correct was a Thunder , had an L98 engine , loved it , phantom black with red leather interior
