Holden or Chev?????

Ok guys just after some opinions here.

I'm looking at rebuilding an engine for my HZ. My problem is do I go holden or chev? Im looking at either a chev 383 or holden 383 stroker.

My question is what would you do? What will be cheaper? What will be better? Am I looking into the wrong things? etc.

it depends wat you are after, i would personally go for the chev, they bolt straight in, performance parts are cheaper than holden and there is a bigger variety. I ran a solid 350 in my 2door hq ,4.44 in the rear end and ran 11 flat with wheel spin. They sound the goods aswell, but the holden also has benifits, not sure how hard it would be for you to get it through registration, shouldn't be hard if you get it passed with a stocker than go nuts on it!!

Im leaning towards the chev atm because of costs but i already have some holden parts so its a bit of a toss up.

Just one more Q for you, I am looking at a manual gearbox but dont know what would hold up. Any ideas?

Why a manual?
A manulized auto would be far better.
But if you have to, a muchie or saginaw 4 speed which came out in the monaro's, or a top loader. Also tremec 5 speed, they call it a TKO % speed, i'l dig up some specs!!
Wat holden parts you got?

Full MSD ignition system (could just get a chev dizzy though), roller rockers, valve springs + stuff like gaskets, timing covers, waterpumps and odds and ends. And also acess to some CNC ported VN heads.

I know it can be done Been there before on a mates car and yes it is legal.

Mate i would still go for the chev, sell your bits, make some $ and put it towards to chev!!

True. Now to find a cheap block so i can start this project. Can a 305 be stroked out to 383? is it the same block as a 350?

Do you mean the 307?
The 305 was a later model engine that came with the tps injection, i think. Why stroke a motor that far when a 350 can be done the same and they are in abundance. Make sure you get a 010 block. They had thicker bores and get 4 bolt main caps!!!
