with such a limited range it makes you wonder if GM will launch another brand here soon, they already tried Opel once, killed off Daewoo guess it'll be a wait and see to find out if they will sell anything other than whitegoods.

They will probably compete well with Hyundai as long as they can match the price.

They'll have to up their game on quality (ie. with the touchy-feely stuff as well as longevity) if they're going to match rather than undercut Hyundai/Kia prices.

Australia is as much part of the global market as anywhere else now, so the days of an Australian made large sedan are gone. The way trade agreements have been forged has opened up a competitive range of cars that makes producing our own so much less economical. We priced ourselves out of our own market.

We are now getting quality European cars at much more competitive prices so it makes sense to cease production of local models. I think even the Asian manufacturers have stepped up their game to build a better quality product.

So the recent Opel saga was before GM decided to end local Holden manufacture. Once that happened, they pulled Opel out so they can rebrand Opel products and sell them as Holdens in Australia.

Fact is, Holden't new vision for the future better aligns with the demands of buyers, generally speaking. For the Holden name plate to survive at all, they have to sell the sort of cars the majority of people want.

Don't see them selling big numbers of any of those cars, what made Holden is "Aussie Made" take that away and they're just another "Korean" car manufacturer. Sorry Holden but I'm going euro next
