    Hey,

Just wanted to know who people are with for home and contents insurance.

My place is going to be finished mid Oct so I figure I should start researching this stuff.

Best quote I've had so far was:

    Insurer:
    GIO
    House Cover:
    $300K
    Contents Cover:
    $88K
    Extras:
    Accidental damage cover
    Motor burnout cover
    Pet injury cover
    Premium:
    $670

    Is this good? Bad?

    Anyone had experiences with GIO?

Anyone had good experiences with another insurer?

I am bundled with Shannons for the cars and the house and have been for years. I am not even sure what the premium is to be honest, but I know there were discounts for having it all with the same company.

    Hi,

I have used GIO in the past, and had no problems. However, I may never have had a claim on them so maybe can't provide a strong recommendation.

    Premium looks reasonable to me.

My car insurance is with AAMI, but my houses/contents are with Defence Service Homes Insurance (a part of Department of Veteran Affairs).

I stay with AAMI because their premiums are competitive, I have a life time 70% NCB and they have provided good service if I have ever called on them. DSH is not necessarily cheaper, but the insurance product is second to none.

"Motor burnout cover"? Is that for when you rip a fat skid in your driveway and the car blows up.. they cover the repair costs?

GIO was good for us but then their premium became ridiculous so we said see ya later !! They are rather nit picky though ... if they can save $10 by rapairing something rather than replacing it they will take the cheapo option.
