just checking that it is connected to the battery, the only other thing i could think of would be the earth, do u have a multimeter or a voltmeter? if so you could check everything 2 make sure there is power where it is supposed 2 be, so then if it still doesnt work u can blame the tacho itself and take it back

when i wired mine up, the light didnt work at all, but i eventually got the tacho itself to work, i had the green on the positive of the coil, was told that was wrong so changed it and it worked, the light has just decided 2 work about 2 weeks ago (tacho was installed a couple of months ago) and has worked ever since

yeah, if the light doesnt turn on and the needle doesnt move, it does sound like your earth... check where you have the black wire going to, if in doubt, use a test light or multi meter to see if you have ground there...

VY CUSTOM.
Do you have chrome stips around your windows? if yes .. then try an earth on one of those screws that holds them in, thats what i have mine on atm.

If you still have no luck try a 12v in the fuse box rather then the battery.

ps, best connection is solderniod or the butt connection things, followed by tape.

find an earth that u know works on another item in the car and hook up to there or close to it. If the surface is painted u won't get a good earth, so make sure u earth it somewhere that's not painted or thick metal and a good screw.

Hope this helps.
