It would be worth researching what they used in the States. If it can work things like complete diffs can be imported from the States at a better price than in Australia.

I just looked up my brochure, I had a VE II Thunder Ute but manual, and the Auto version got the 2.92:1 ratio, while the Manual got the 3.45:1 ratio.
If I were you, If you can afford an OTR and tune, I would start looking around for a used 3.45:1 diff and put that in (don’t do this if you travel long distances on the Hwy all the time), and get the tune done at the same time. There may be a member on here who has a perfectly good used diff laying around with that ratio. A lot of guys upgraded to a 3.7:1 or even 3.9:1 in their manual cars for the extra poke.
If you are not ready to do any mods, look around for a second hand 2.92:1 or take up MrBags on his very generous offer to get you out of trouble until you decide what direction you are going with it. At the very least, you can replace your LSD with the single spinner, and start looking around for a replacement LSD.
Start making calls to diff repair places, you never know what they might have in the shop.
I would also be inclined to take Skylarkings advice after they quoted you for a brand new Holden diff. They didn’t even try and help out their customer by contacting diff specialist. This is probably because they get the Holden diff at a great trade deal, and charge you retail.
I do have the savings for upgrades I just don't know that I want to pour all that extra money into it yet as I don't know how long I'll have it for yet or if there's anything else that's gonna need fixing. I definitely won't be going with their option to buy a new one for 3 grand when it's half that price on holmart. The 3.45 looks to be 2000 brand new on there. I'm unsure what difference I would notice if I was to take the offer of the non LSD diff or if I'm better off sticking with LSD. I don't know alot about cars I just drive them.
Also most of my driving is to work where I drove about 40 mins on the highway at 100km+ so you don't suggest a gear ratio change if most of my driving is 100kms?

Most workshops prefer to go brand new, because everything should be spot on and should last for years.

Recoed is certainly a good option. You'd have to look at what sort of warranty is given, to make a judgement call on whether to go for this option

2nd hand could be fraught with danger, as you don't know the history.....That being said, the member that has offered his used one for free, is a good option, if money is tight at this stage.

As for tunes etc etc....Honestly, how is that getting the car mobile again? By the sounds of your post, I'd be looking at the recoed option and enjoying the ute and look at the rest down the track

Thanks I might have to ring up any diff specialists near where I live or in Geelong where I work mostly and see what they could do I'm guessing it would still be costly but worth a try. The non LSD one offered on here could be a good option I just don't know the mechanics behind LSD and non lsd and everything but could be worth it if it gets me moving again and out of trouble as it's not in a very ideal location for me at the moment..
Or I just buy the new one off holmart what's alot cheaper than their price and it says it's genuine. Unsure the costs of labour and oil to fit a new one I'll have to ask them that too.

Looking at eBay there's a shop selling a used one with 91000kms on it for $540 but I guess that's risky considering my cars only done 95k and look what's happened

You're the second bloke in as many weeks who has had problems with his LSD VE diff. Tells me avoid SH if it means paying a decent amount for one.

Always a gamble buying used anything! Unless you absolutely know the history of course.

Yeah I'm thinking the one off holmart seems like a good price at $1600 New and genuine since the mechanic tried telling me 3000. Says the price is dropped from $2380

Take the free diff. $200. - $300. to fit it. 2 or 3 hrs work l would think, for the experts.
Then your up & running. You can then decide what your going to do with the car.
Its your car, you decide.
Does sound like a pretty easy option and the cheapest way to get me back driving again, just as I've said in other posts I don't know the difference of Lsd and non lsd and if it's gonna make much difference to me at all
