Im trying to buy a 245kw 5.7 v8 engine. There are a couple of places that sell used engines but the problem is they just call them v8 commodore or caprice engine! Since there are 3 types of v8 engines, how can i tell the difference? Also, is the vy ss engine the same as a vy (lets say Calais) 5.7 v8 245kw engine? Would it fit in an ecotec engine bay?
I'm not a 100% sure but I'd say most of the power differences would be in the tunes and not the motors themselves. PJDM1980
No difference in the motors. Power increase was achieved through a combination of tune and exhaust (depending on model). Cheers
Oh so a commodore or caprice 2000-2004 v8 engine blocks are all the same no matter in which model car, including ss?
Also you will need the V8 K frame if replacing a V6 as they have different engine mounting arrangements.
Go for a later model LS1 2002+ as you should pick up the LS6 block make sure casting number is: 12561168
Why don't you just buy a V8 powered car, surely even in the UAE's it would work out about the same if not a bit cheaper and you'd have a factory V8?

Complete motor with all bolt ons, gearbox, wiring harness, pcm, bcm and matching coded keyhead, tailshaft, k frame, v8 speedo cluster (or have your current cluster modded to suit), radiator, airbox and intake, exhaust, metal coolant pipes (the ones that sit on the k frame infront of the harmonic balancer), heater pipes. I think that's about it. Cheers
