was going to get a Ve ss or Ve sv6 for next car, how do I avoid timing chain issues, are there certain models or years, Ve series 2? do the hsv's have same timing chain issues? Putting me off seeing a lot of classified mention issues with the cars for sale. Thanks guys, I could move to the dark side and get a xr6 turbo but they are pretty plain and ugly.

Don't buy a pre-08 v6. Buy a car with a very good service history (every 5000km or 6 months, latter only if low kms). Drive it and see if you can feel any problems. Not much else you can realistically do.

There's a reason the XR6's have held their value better than the SV6's.

EDIT: Actually you can buy a pre-08 v6 provided they've replaced the timing chains. I'd want proof though.

another vote for the v8. The only blokes that I know that like VE have v8 all the blokes I know that brought a v6 for the mrs have pissed them off.

To save the issue of the timing chain, try and haggle the price down to help cover the cost of you paying for it to be replaced...That way you know it has been done, providing you don't get a shonky mechanic that takes your money and does nothing....Whilst the chain is being done, insist on a service being done at the same time, just in case it isn't part of the chain replacement cost.

As for buying a V8....A comment was recently made on this forum.....Those insisting on a V8 might be lacking a few inches elsewhere, so they want to make it up with engine size....:)

OP looking at getting into a VE and is tossing up between SS or SV6.

Asks how to avoid timing chain issues.

Obvious answer is get SS coz doesn't have timing chain issues.

Nothing to do with lacking inches.

Those insisting V8 owners lack inches maybe lack brain cells :)

Thanks guys, so no timing chain issues with a Ve series 1/2 v8 ss? And are they ok on gas? I have injected gas in my vz sv6 and it's pretty much same power as on petrol.
