Gday I just bought all new stereo equipment and I dont want it to all get wet as my boot is leaking water. How do I tell where the leak is coming from? Do i need it re sealed or what? Thanks
the leak comes i assume from a bad seal at the top. the first thing is to clean leaves and dirt out of the groove where the seal is made. the next is to get someone to hose (using grey water of course!) the boot while you are inside with a torch/lamp. if it leaks you can maybe spot where. after you've identified the location, i have no idea how you fix it
The leak will be from the rear lights, chances are that some or all of the nuts that hold the rear light on have vibrated loose letting water in passed the rubber, undo them clean out the water and mud and whatever else is in there do them back up properly, no more leaks : ) just like magic. If you dont fix it fast it will rust out your lights, that why you see heaps of VN/VP's driving around with the lower tail light not working
my leak was rust... all around the back window... cost me a cheap $800 to fix. some quoted me $1,500. pray its only the lights or the seal...
Fuel Door Hey, I read somewhere on here it sometimes is the fuel door something to do with 3 screws for the pipe or sumthing like that. Try that i dunno for sure but i feel for ya. My gemmi boot used to leak like a shower. It sucks ass hard. Lucky my vn dont knock on wood. Good luck Ed
Plenty of talk about boot seals, lights etc.... Rarely hear any comments about the rear side windows for some reason. The seals on these will shrink and perish over time and can let bucket loads of water into the boot. These should be checked also, as when you reckon you've got it nailed and you fit all your nice new stereo gear then the first decent downpour drowns it all, you will be really pissed off. It may not be the problem, but I have read plenty of posts where people have given up trying to find leaks :bang: and just live with them, but haven't checked these windows. If in doubt, I reckon you should reseal them anyway. Rip 'em out, heaps of windscreen sealer, refit 'em and then at least you know they won't give you any grief for a few years.
leaks just a tip bout finding the leaks guys, if you get someone with a hose make sure you start from the bottom and work upwards. there no point in putting the water on the top and it running down and leaking in. itll just make it easier for ya. also if you want a quick fix, try putting selleys all clear or some other silicone based sealant, worked for me when i worked on a 1983 mazda 323 (wat a heap! i mean swiss cheese!) Cheers Jaymz
I found my problem which is a 5 cent piece sized hole under the rubber for the rear window sort of. I put a hose to it and water pissed in! How do I seal it? Its a rust hole
depends on how good you want it ?? to do it properly you would need to pull the back window and get it welded or you could just pump silicon in there
Yeah it isnt that close to the back window its a little more down. Ill try use some rustrid and firbre fill
swimmen in it Hey i went out after i bought my vp and picked up myself bout $2000 of audio for it.then it rained and my boot filled up with water for what would be the first of many times(thanken god that pioneer shrink wrap their spkrs as do schnider their amps!!!!).to fix the problem i got the rust around my rear windshield fixed.....then my boot seal cleaned and slammed down(after more water)...then (after more -but slightly less-water still) i replaced my tail lights which for sum rediculour reason leak in between the sections.then i slept easy during the rainy times...
another place can be leaking is you know where the trim goes around the window a the rear quarter window any small holes will let it flow in and run in upside down into the boot then into the tail lamps this is a problem which is very hard to fix.
