I have two remotes and 2 keys and want to pair the second remote... how do i do this??? thanks in advance.
By waving it at the car like a wand and chanting the vin backwards 3 times............ call holden and ask if they can point you in the direction of getting a new one suited to your vehicle.
well it's not like a newer commodore where a new keyfob can be paired to the vehicle, it's an old system that was made by a 3rd party, it cannot be done..... you need to contact the manufacturer (mongoose if i recall correctly.. but as i said call holden) and give them the number on the sticker inside the working remote so they can program a new one and send it out to you @ what ever cost they decide is appropriate and i'm guessing it will not be cheap.
There are a few common things that you can repair on remotes. Often corrosion can build up inside the button/s and prevent it from pressing down, the corosion can easily be cleaned up with some isoprophyl alcohol. I can't remember if the VN Calais used 1 button or 2, but i know on the 1 button remotes there is a blue variable resistor that can be adjusted to improve remote operation. Is it 1 or 2 buttons? does the light flash when you press the button? Have you tryed a new battery? After typing all that i noticed you said "Pair" not "repair", JXW is right unless you buy a generic learning remote you have to talk to holden.
I went to local locksmith at shopping center and he programed a new different one from a falcon or something off old one, less than fifty bucks.
ok so i emailed mongoose about the remote coding with a module and no remote and they said no problem. then i gave them the number off the inside of it and they told me sorry if its before 1/89 and has the two letters as a prefix its a cobra remote and they cant help me. so im back to square 1. i really didnt want to go with an aftermarket setup id still like to keep it original. is there a place i can contact for the older remotes? think the cobra ones go for vk and vl too? any help is appreciated. i might call holden too but i think that might be a waste of time being that im chasing 80's ****, when they dont even stock most vs stuff now... the other option is chase someone wrecking a vn calais...
What is actually happening is it is using excessive amount of battery ( one battery lasts overnight ), i'm going to try and recode second fob by cut and solder coding tracks, but am not sure if boards are the same ie different board number, circuit seems the same but code etched into copper is different.
as long as your existing remote is giving a signal it can be copied. i highly recommend you dont mess with the only remote you have. get another one copied from this one and then mess with it. the key joint i use in airport west does the new remotes coded for $70, but you need one to copy from or your going to have the same problem i had. the mongoose ones can be programmed with the under dash code ($100 plus shipping), but the cobra ones.... good luck. get a duplicate before you destroy your only one....
